Why did I choose ESF?

As a second year medical student, ESF was the perfect fit for my personal and professional goals. ESF promotes local and international health awareness by serving the underserved and underprivileged population of the world. These are essential elements in practicing effective medicine, as well as humanitarianism. The qualities expressed by the ESF leadership are important to the current advancement of minorities, especially minority students. They are compassionate and genuine in their mission to change the face of healthcare and global health consciousness.

In addition, the networking and educational opportunities provided by the organization are necessary to my future success. ESF exemplifies professionalism and encourages such for the student members of the organization. The “real world” education I have received from being a part of ESF is indispensable to my professional and personal growth.

Places I’m interested in working or visiting:

I would like to practice medicine in an underprivileged section of Philadelphia. The urban areas of the city are generally neglected and most often need the most medical attention. I would like to travel to all seven continents in my lifetime, especially Africa.

Personal and Professional Goals:

I received a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Florida A&M University. I am currently enrolled in the Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine program at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and I am estimated to graduate in 2012. I will complete a Master’s in Biomedical Science in 2009. Upon graduation, I plan to establish a medical office in an urban neighborhood of the city that will treat patients in that community, as well as educate the population on health disparities and promote patient accountability.

Extracurricular and Volunteer activities:

  • Saint Simon the Cyrenian Episcopal Church, Youth Guild – Creator and Facilitator
  • Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine – Social Events Co-Chair, Class of 2012
  • Student National Medical Association – Community Service Co-Chair
  • Blueprint for a Safer Philadelphia – Youth Coordinator
